EAT UP YOUR GREENS. MEAT IS BAD FOR YOU. WHY? The American Dietetic Association states that vegetarians have “lower rates of death from ischemic heart disease; … lower blood cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure, and lower rates of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and prostate and colon cancer” and that vegetarians are less likely than meat-eaters to be obese.1 Well-planned vegetarian diets provide us with all the nutrients that we need, minus all the saturated fat, cholesterol, and contaminants found in animal flesh, eggs, and dairy products.
The consumption of meat, eggs, and dairy products has also been strongly linked to osteoporosis, Alzheimer's, asthma, and male impotence. Scientists have also found that vegetarians have stronger immune systems than their meat-eating friends; this means that they are less susceptible to everyday illnesses like the flu.7 Vegetarians and vegans live, on average, six to 10 years longer than meat-eaters.

STUPID QUESTIONS 101
1. Animals eat each other. Why shouldn’t we eat animals too?
Animals who are naturally carnivores cannot survive if they don’t do so. In fact, they have no choicel On the other hand it is an entirely different case for humans! In humans, our tiny “canine” teeth, flat molars and long digestive tracts and lack of claws clearly show that we are better off as herbivores. There are many animals, including our vegetarian primates the gorillas and orangutans who do not eat meat. We should view them as models of healthy eating.
Another way to put it is, if humans don’t eat humans, what gives us the right to eat animals too? That’s sheer cruelty and is also a form of cannibalism!
2. All countries have set down laws on animal treatment in farms. Don't farmers treat their animals well so they'll produce more milk or eggs?”The reason why animals on factory farms gain weight, lay tons of eggs or produce milk is because their bodies have been manipulated with medications, hormones, genetics and management techniques! Besides, animals raised for meat and injected with growth hormones so they can be slaughtered young. Chickens kept for eggs are cooped into wire cages so small that they can’t even turn around. In such dirty cooped up environment and inhumane conditions, it is simply impossible for these mass produced milk and eggs to be healthy!
3. What’s wrong with eating eggs? No hens are killed!
Laying hens are probably the most abused factory farm animal. Each egg from a factory farm represents about 34 hours of misery and came from a hen who was packed into a cage the size of a filing-cabinet drawer with as many as five other chickens. At factory farms, cages are stacked many tiers high, and feces from the top rows fall onto the chickens below. Hens become lame because they are forced to remain immobile and because they lose a great deal of calcium when they repeatedly produce egg shells. Some birds’ feet grow around the wire cage floors, and they starve to death because they are unable to reach the food trough. At just 2 years of age, most hens are “spent” and are sent to the slaughterhouse. Egg hatcheries don’t have any use for male chicks, so they are suffocated, decapitated, crushed, or ground up alive.
4. If everyone becomes a vegetarian, won’t ducks, pigs, cows and other poultry animals take over the world?
If you think the world will stop eating meat overnight, you are being unrealistic. Generally, there are two points of view to this question.
-As the demand for meat decreases, less poultry animals will be raised for food. Farmers will stop breeding so many animals, less animals will be slaughtered, and they will turn to other types of agriculture. When there are fewer of these overbreeded animals, the ecosystem and balance between population of animals and humans will be well balanced.
-From the karma point of view: When less people kill and eat animals, they will not create so much bad karma, or if you prefer-sin. In return, there will be less seeds of bad retribution (being born as animals) planted in the world. The population of such animals will not increase and disrupt nature’s balance. Then, less hatred-filled beings “reincarnate” in this world for revenge- which makes the world a more peaceful place.
4. There will not be enough food to eat if everyone only ate vegetables and grains!
So much grain are fed to animals to fatten them up! If we all became vegetarians, there would be more than enough food for every mouth on this Earth! The world’s cattle consume a shocking quantity of food, which is equal to the caloric needs of 8.7 billion people- more than the entire human population.
5. Don’t vegetarians have difficulty getting enough nutrients, especially protein?”Take a look at the food pyramid- which of the food categories should be taken in big servings? Definitely not meat! It shows that vegetables, fruits and wheat can supply sufficient nutrient! There is serious common misunderstanding stating that vegetarians have difficulty obtaining first class protein. In fact, you can get enough protein just from whole wheat bread, oatmeal, beans, corn, peas, mushrooms, tofu, nuts and vegetables, especially broccoli. Almost every food contains protein! Besides, research has shown that in western countries, the people get too much protein! Most Americans get at least twice as much protein as they need, which is too much. This increases your risk of osteoporosis and kidney disease. Don’t worry that you will get Goitre if you don’t take seafood, seaweed is equally good enough!
6. I didn’t even kill the animal! Why should I feel bad eating it?
Right- you did not kill the animal. But you hired the killer! These animals were slaughtered upon your support and request. They were innocently killed because you paid for it. DO NOT think that meat is sold because other people are buying it, and that you can just take a bit of it as well. Because, you are also a part of those “other people”.
7. why should animals have rights?
Animals should also be treated with fairness. They are just like humans, for they love and protect their young, are sensitive to pain, and are also capable of fear. Over the past centuries, animals have been a great help to humans. They are also our friends! That’s why, many people believe that animals have their RIGHTS to live their life free from suffering and abuse.
8. If you say eating animals is cruel, isn’t eating vegetables cruel too? Vegetables are alive too!
It is true that plants respond to their environment (thigmotropism, phototropism, geotropism), and they grow hard shells or thorns to prevent being harmed by the wild. But, as Dr. Frank Dainello, Professor and Extension Vegetable Specialist tells us, no one has been able to identify a single structure or organ in a plant that can be equated with the human brain, the organism responsible for human thought. Besides, no one has been able to document a soul or a conscience of plants, too.
